I bought some drag pipes for my 1200s, and I have already purchased the crush gaskets. I have a Screaming Eagle air cleaner already.
My question is, will I need to do anything else such as replace the jets, tune etc...?
Or can I just take off the old, and slap on the new?
You will need to do something, that is likely. Drag pipes seem to generally have a negative affect on Sportster performance, as they are designed truly for performance at full throttle only. You might wind up putting "lollipops" in them to provide a little backpressure (google "exhaust lollipop"), so your mid-throttle performance doesn't suck.
You'll probably wind up re-jetting as well, though I wouldn't be the one to tell you exactly what to do in this case. My bikes are all EFI, but we see questions like yours all the time here about carb'd bikes. If your bike was EFI you'd have to download a new map after making these changes, which in some ways is the equivalent of rejetting a carb'd bike.
Thank you all. Not sure if it was re-jetted when the cleaner was put in.
I was hoping to just slap them on. I guess I get to learn how to re-jet...cool.
the re jetting is not hard at all.me and a friend did it in an hour or so.and never opened a carb ever before.the instructions are very easy to understand, and step by step.buy the kit from the above mentioned link and you will have no problems.
