Im installing new Hooker Troublemaker darksides on my '06 Sportster. Do I have to get the jet kit and new air intake for it so it wont run lean, or will I be just fine with the new pipes and gettin on the road?
I've heard some bad stories about jet kits so I would just try adjusting your carb to allow more fuel to the mixture. The pipes alone probably will not give you much power increase (if any at all) but a high flow air kit will give you more power. Both free-er flowing pipes and high flow air kits cause lean conditions so you will need to enritchen your mixture.
There's lots of guys on this forum that know more than I do so if anyone wants to provide some insight please go ahead!
Personally I have talked to quick a few mechanics at the harley dealers and I am not to sure if they really care but speaking to atleast 10 over the phone about a similer issue i had they about 70 percent said that putting a new air cleaner on the bike will have it run leaner. With that being said there ideology of this is that with drag pipes you have created less back pressure and putting a new hi performance cleaner on will only bring in more air causeing the bike to run even leaner. I hope this can help you make a decision. I am not sure exactly what could happen but you could always try it and see what happensm which is what i will proboly do. So if i do i wikll opost, til then i hope this helped and good luck.
