Yes that Is what I am going to do. You are right that sometimes things start to get a little confusing. Thanks for your help and I will be needing help on other problems in the future, this what happens when a bike is put together to make a bobber Charly
I always thought that that had more to do with keeping the crankcase closed to the open atmostphere than it did with trying to re-burn any blowby that got past the piston rings for cleaner air, though...
It is typical of all Harleys with underseat oil tanks, atleast up to Evo, to have a slight leak through the oil pump check valve that drains into the crankcase(sumping). If let sit for a week or more this collected oil is immediately pumped out the breather. If hooked up to the carb, this oil dumps into the manifold and a/c causing a mess. If run straight out it dumps on the floor(I use a catch pan if it has set for a while).
While running, fumes and some oil will be dumped into the carb as well. This can lead to oil fouled plugs and carbon buildup in the cylinders. Therefore, I don't recommend venting to the carb, it was only a half *** attempt by HD to cover their asses for environmental issues.
I can believe any HD run at 9000 rpm will lunch the inards faster than a scalded cat, no matter where the vent goes!
ok maby were getting off in the wrong direction hear... but anyway after my motor came apart i called the shop that built it and after there inspection and a 3 week wait on a lab to look at the oil conent, too many calls to the piston, carb, ring, manufactures and everyone elce involved with that motor,it was decied that the rings were not totaly sealing due to pressure building in the crank case thus alowing raw unburnt gas (hc- fossel fuel /not h2o watter) to brake down the oil and boom the blue boomer has stuck.... now im not all knowing nor am i always rite, however after getting all the imput possable and rebuilding that motor witch has stayed in 1 peice with only that change im forced to belive there might b something to it. now as for the ironhead maby im a freak or something but i do not have an oil leak and have never noticed any oil in the air cleaner. im very fussy abought keeping up on my scoot. it is in better shape now than ever. and we store it inside for winter and belive me my wife would kill me for oil on her floor. im stickin to what every pro told me... now who knows maby the guy that does it all day long to put food on the table is wrong though?????
So what you are tring to say is don't vent the breather to the carb. I checked the s&s instructions and they have the vent going to the carb. I guess everybody has a different opinnion on this and all the feedback helps

Vent it to the carb 98glider. It is designed for that very purpose. It balances pressure on the same principle that pipes need reversion.[sm=burnout.gif]
