Default OIL & GEN lights

Just got my 74 all bolted back up after 13 months of restoration.
couldn't get the OE type OIL & GEN lights but found a clean set of 12v two wire
lamps and used them instead. I grounded one wire from each lamp, and connected
the remaining wire from each lamp to the terminal posts shown in the manual.
The Generator is new and has been polorized according to instructions, and the Oil Pump has been rebuilt. When I fire this puppy up it sounds so good but I have to hit the kill switch quick because I'm not getting any flickers or anything in the lights. They just stay as brightly lit as if the engine isn't even running. Any trouble shooting techniques or suggentions would be greatly appreciated...
And last but not least this forum has been such a great resource for getting this bike back together. Bought it new in 74 rode it till 84 and have been hauling trunks full of parts
around for 24 years...now it's time again.
Thanks

Default RE: OIL & GEN lights

One side of each of the lights should go to the fork terminal board that connects to the orange wire coming from the accessory circuit breaker, then the other side of the gen light goes to the gen terminal on the voltage regulator. That wire is tan. The other side of the oil light goes to the oil pressure switch. Yellow wire. The way you have them wired to ground will just keep them lit.
