I have not had a right hand shift myself, but many guys on these forums ride both. I would love to have a 60s Ironhead along with my '78.

I just have to add my 2 cents.I ride a 76,with the right side "conversion". having ridden both old English(BSA's mostly,) and Honda's,I had no problem with the right shift. Also, With a little ingenuity, and a good shop, it is easy to create a decent forward shifter, I only have it on my bike.
There is nothing to compare, and as previously stated, no one wants to test ride it, lol.
Keep the classic., my vote.

Keep it right side. Within a couple of rides you'll wonder why you ever worried about it.

Thanks for the responses. Guess I was just worrying about teaching an old dog new tricks. Gonna try to get this Ironhead.

Was a little awkward for me at first mainly cause when i rode it for the firat time the previous owner didnt mention the shifter was on the right! Worse than that was when I accidently hit the brake a couple time expecting to shift and unexpectedly surging forward but I got used to it. You will too. I like that its kinda weird and different just like me! Would also be priceless watching someone try to steal it / test ride it.

However I would like to put some forward controls on it if I could find em.

I've got a 75 with the horrible left side shift conversion and in 35 years of owning this bike, it has never given me a moments trouble, shifts perfectly, and will snick into any gear including neutral with the flick of a toe.

The only thing I've ever had to do was pump a little grease into the fitting under the bike.
