Brushes in a prestolite starter

Default Brushes in a prestolite starter
What is the correct oreintaion of the brushes in the holder? Should the positives be next to each other at the top where the positive batt. cable comes in or across from each other?

i have an extra prestolite i'll take itapart and get back with you in the am.by the way this starter came off an old evinrude outboard but it is identical to the starter on my bike.

my bad this starter only has two brushes in it.my bike is apart so i took the starter apart.the brushes go pos neg pos neg.

Thanks for the reply, I got it back togther and starts easily now. Hey does that outboard starter bolt as a replacement?

i think it will bolt in but with only two brushes it probably doesn't have enough torque to turn over a harley.
