Default Project- is this worth it?

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and need help! I am really interested in this project bike I just ran in to. This thing is all taken apart and tons of things missing... The frame seems to be in good condition, the heads seem okay, it does not look like it'll too much (i' said a it is missing, i'm assuming all the nuts and bolts!) nothing is really together, it's all sitting on a work bench (inclu the engine.)

This "project" bike is right around $1,000... or at least that is what he is asking. He said he has alot of parts and most of them, 2 or 3 of each!

I am new to the "building a bike" scene, but always loved the idea. I am good with tools, and I don't think it would be hard, it would just take a lot of time at swap meets, or searching the forum for parts...

Give me thoughts and suggestions please!

What year is it? You won't be able to tell what condition the motor is in unless it's stripped down and checked out. If the motor is toast, it will cost you twice as much as the asking price to go through it. Check for cracked cases, transmission laying all over etc. Invest in factory shop and parts manuals.

I was told it was a 78 with a 73 frame. the engine is in pieces. I am under the impression 2 heads are good to go, but I would need a piston to put it all back together.

It seems as if nothing on this bike is together.

I've seen plenty of these atomized bikes and a grand sounds high, especially for a mix-and-match and such an unknown quantity. You'd be better off finding something that's together, even if it doesn't run--at least that way you know it's all there.

If you're really hankering for a project, and all the major parts appear to be there, offer the guy five or six and be ready to walk away.

Does he have a 73 title? After 1970 the title goes with the frame. If not you are going to have a tough time getting one. Check out the case area behind the transmission sprocket. If the case is cracked the motor is toast. I agree with Moon Wolf find a complete assembly if you want a project. This one could be a money pit.
