how much rod movement?

Default how much rod movement?

i measured the rod movement at tdc at the base.it was .04.i am not sure if this is the correct way to measure or not or what the allowable movement is.----even if its past the allowable limit how long would this last.--thanks in advance.

Pushrods? If that's what you're talking about, there is not a way to measure the free movement other than spinning with you fiingers, so I'm not sure how you would get .04 as a measurement. If they need adjusting, the proper way is to have the one you want to adjust with it's valve in the closed position (pushrod all the way down). To know that it is fully closed you simply watch for the same rod on the opposite cylinder to be all the way up. Use the rear wheel with the transmission in gear to spin the motor. When correctly adjusted, you should be able to spin the pushrod freely and smooth, but not have any up/down or side/side movement.

Are you talking about pushrods or connecting rods or what.

im talking about connecting rods.---im in the process of putting topend back together and noticed a little more movement in one rod....curious about the condition/lifespan of lower end.

Specs show .001 -.0017 rod fit on crankpin. Piston pin bushing .0008 - .002. If it's at the bottom of rod then it sounds like a worn crankpin or roller bearings.The way to measure is have it apart and measure the bearing races and crankpin. No idea how long that will last, but I'm sure I've been riding around like that for years lol. I'm cheap and won't split the case until something actually breaks.
