Default wiring trouble

Hi. I have just gotten my hands on a 74 sporty XLCH . In Mississippi the law requires head tail and turn signals to pass inspection. This bike apparently became a ground up resto because there is no wiring on it. I bought a main wiring harness and a blinker set to get started. If anyone can help tell me how I might be able to run all the electrical without a battery or if that is even possible. I have been an automotive mechanic for about 5 years now but this is my first motorcycle and I would hate to screw something up on a piece of history.

Thanks

1973 Mandatory turn signals came to sportster, yes you need battery to have turn signals.
