brake light switch.....
I am in my finishing stages of rebuilding my basket case.....I am not familiar with these Irons, as I have said in the past so try and humor me. I am trying to figure out exactly how of where the rear brake light switch goes on this bike. I have a right side shift and I don't see any type of switch in my boxes of nuts and bolts here. Please advise and thank you in advance.

It works off the rod that operates the rear brake. The switch mounts on the swingarm, and a tab that pushes on it mounts on the rod. See if piniongear can get a pic of his for you. It ain't in any of the books I have, 1959 - 1982.

heres a pic i have i think its a '73 when i put my bike togehter i could find how the stock switch went and wired in a universal switch........then i found out later........

If you live in Ohio there should be some HD dealers in your area that cater (somewhat anyway) to older machines. In anycase a dealer should be able to easily order one for you. It is just a spring loaded switch that clamps around the brake rod as pococj described. The switch is positioned on the rod with the spring compressed against that tab on the s/arm. Press the brake pedal and the switch moves away from the tab, causing the stop light to go on. I have no catalog info on this switch as there is only mention of it in the factory manual stating a mechanical, normally closed, plunger type switch, parts of which are not available. The switch must be replaced as a unit......piniongear
