no spark

Default no spark

just got a 71 ironhead going through it new points coil plugs and plug wires still no spark points set at .018 will get a spark when turn key to off position any ideas?

it almost has to be something with the points system. are they opening and closing when you turn over the engine? a picture of the inside of the timing cover would help us help you...or did you find it already?

Since you posted back on the 23rd, you probably have found the problem by now like d slat mentioned but I'll toss in my take on this. What you describe sounds like you have the wire between the coil and the points not connected to the moveable point or there is a ground in that wire. The other thing is that you may have a shorted condenser. This is assuming you have set your .018" gap while the point rubbing block is on a high point of the ignition cam lobe (ie. the points open and close when the engine is turning).
