I have not received my manual yet and know this sounds like a simple thing but I have found out by not knowing what your doing on a ironhead can have some very negative effects,so could someone give me a step by step on changeing the oil. Iam planing on useing 60 just need to know where to drain where to put in, how much and any other knowledge you guys would like to throw in there .I have rode this bike a little around town and I love the ironhead.just want to make sure Iam good on the oil.PG I will post pics as soon as I can find cord for my camara...thanks for all the help..
There are two oils to change, the engine oil and the primary oil.
The primary drain is on the bottom of the case in the side stand attachment area. Add it thru the primary chain inspection hole [top big plug]; it takes 1.5 pints [24 fl oz], or until it drips out of the overflow hole shown in this pic with the bike level [support it so that it does not tip over, eh] ...
The engine oil takes 3 quarts. Someone else will chime in on where the drain is on that oil tank.
I changed primary and their was glitery very very fine metal trace in oil and a small glob on drain plug nepple is this normal or time to worry. when I bought the bike the owener told be that the trans had been rebuilt with all new parts and at one of the best shops in Dallas area,Browns cycle .I have built alot of 4strokes for alcohol modifieds and have had this at brake in but this is a whole other beast.has anyone seen this????? you where right on the button Ironmick 24 oz.
