ok i dont know the correct names for the bolts but i am talking about the 4 large allen head bolts on the right side of the rockers.i have noticed i have an oil leak and am wondering about the best way to fix it.it was slightly loose(more loose than the others) and i hope by me tightening it it did the trick(my torque wrench sprouted legs and walked off it seems) but in case it didnt is there any way to remove it without taking the valve cover off? ifit cannot be removed how far out could one take it safely....maybe icould put a touch of gasket seal on the lip of the head of the bolt?--any ideas.
Those are the "rocker arm shaft end screws". There is a simple o-ring behind each one to keep them from leaking oil. These are very short bolts that screw into the rocker arm shaft. The acorn nut on the other side of the rocker cover is attached to the other end of the shaft.
Removing, tightening, or loosening either can be a bit of a problem as one may turn then not the other depending on which is tighter. Sometimes you try to adjust one and it is the other that moves.
If you mangaed to tighten it then certainly no harm done, and you probably fixed it.
Ahhh, nice to have both the parts book and the factory service manual [hint, hint].
EDIT: BTW, the lifters are down below the pushrods, behind the cam cover.

you mean lifters dont lift from the top??? i dunno why i said lifters i was thinking of another word that still escapes me.....
so its possible to remove that bolt if needed without taking everything apart? at the moment i am not going to do anything i will just see if its stopped leaking.
i got your hint and knew it was coming...

You probably wanted the word rockers.
Yes it is possible to remove that bolt; it is also possible to remove the acorn nut on the other side. Must be careful tho to not remove the shaft between them else you then have to dismantle the rocker covers to get things back together again. Not a big problem, but tedious, especially if unnecessary.
