I just don't want to be in the middle of a turning motion, and get hung up on ... the asphalt....heh. I've done something similar, in which turning on a LOW bike has yielded less than desirable effects. Nothing like turning left, your peg dragging the ground, and you ending up there too....

Ya'll think 1.5/2 inches of ground clearance is enough to ride "safely"? I'd imagine that with either a taller WWW tire - or an 18" rear wheel - it'd raise it an inch or more.

My hard tail has 3" clearance, and it took getting used to. Dont try to go over a speed bump! as far as tire size,a 16" and 18" are almost the same outside dia.from looking at mine. The 16" sidewalls are taller. But, U can run less air in the 16s for a better ride.
I would suggest a longer front end,if You can keep the engine close to level..something to consider for proper oiling.

I see Your in Texas.. I have a 10" over springer with a drum brake wheel,(small) that I didn't use on mine..measure and see if that size may work?

Hmmm....I was actually thinking about going with a springer front end eventually. What measurements should I consult before opting for one though? Bottom or top of the tree to axle center?

wait - this thing would be MONSTEROUSLY long if I went any further on the forks....

I never rode my father's chopper (his was freakishly raked/stretched), just his sporty. His chopper was an old Triumph rigid, with a girder front end that stretched as far as the eye could see. I do remember him having loads of trouble turning that thing though.

Think this one will also give a problem like that? If yes, then I may want to consider putting a VERY large front wheel (like a 23" front spoke), and reduce the rake a tad. I think that'd put the track right back where it needs to be - yes?

I broke out the tape measure tonight -

From the bottom of the trees to the axle - 24"
From the Top of the trees to the axle - 31.5"

What's a stock fork length on a sporty? I may just get a springer that has about the same length as I have right now in fork length.

stock is 31 inches.. a 33inch springer would make a good ride.the front should be raised a little, becaust it has suspension, if it wasnt, you would hit the ground evrytime the suspension diped. a hard tail frame bike shouldnt sit level,

too far out of level, and it'd mess up the oiling, wouldn't it? That front jug would end up scavenging for oil, and it wouldn't end pretty after awhile.

Or am I wrong?
