I recently rode my buddy's Dyna for the first time.
To put it into perspective - he's 6'6", with arms like a monkey. The bars he runs are 18" apes, and on top of that - 8" dogbone risers. Now....imagine a lil fella like myself, standing a 'towering' 5'6" (on a good day..) riding it. The buddy's I went with said I looked like a kite going down the road, and another that was beside me - said I looked like a flying squirrel....ha!
I didn't like it at first, honestly. BUT - after awhile, I let the air keep my arms up and it was suprisingly comfortable. Just holding on with my fingertips, and letting the wind literally hold up my arms, versus using my own muscles to hold them up. Also in turns, just takes getting used to - freaked me smooth out when I went to turn for the first time and it just....felt dangerous.
Hope this helps a little, but I'd change them if you don't like em!

I made it home, sheesus like learning to ride all over again (add in shifting on the right and it truly was lol)... Bout had it down there the last 20 miles always thought it would be the most uncomfortable riding position but it's not bad. You always hear about Harleys being hard on the *** but I'da argued with you after my first (the 77 rode as good as my old 02 Honda Shadow ACE) but now I know... The final verdict is dun dun duh... I LOVE it. Thanks for the clues @iHone

glad to hear you made it home safely....ha! I know it took me a few times in the past few days to really get a feel for them...but after awhile - I feel good on them. Yeah, they're wayyyy large for me (just right for the giant that owns the bike....lol), and I think I'll be putting a set of 16's on my bike once the time comes. Dunno yet though....it's a toss up between a set of drags w/ very little rise, or the extreme opposite - apes.
How's learning to shift on the right? Hard to really get used to, having shifted with the left for so long? I'm about to take that leap once we put this sporty together....and I don't know for sure if I want to keep it just as a right shifter or not. Maybe you can give me some insight, as you're in the shoes I will be in soon.
