What's an ironhead selling for now? Yeah, I know, it varies. Ebay aint a lot of
help any more. I'm needing to know what some have been selling for recently, so
I know what to ask and expect for my stock 76 XLCH. Help me out guys.
Depends on where you are. Around here the asking price is around $4000. The same bike elsewhere the asking will be $2000 to $3500. Basket cases between $500 and $1500.
The more original parts the higher the price. A highly modified bike is not worth much unless it just happens to be what the buyer wants, which is unlikely.
Without a clear title it is worth virtually nothing, unless you want to sell the parts on eBay.
Does "stock 76 XLCH" mean it has original unmolested wire harness with all the instruments, turn signals, etc? original paint and decals? original tanks and fenders? low miles? un-rebuilt engine [STD pistons]? If so would be worth more or perhaps just sell more quickly; it is not a "collectors item" just a nice old bike.
Last year, I looked at an very original 1978 with only 18k miles. About the only changes were exhaust, the seat, and the wheels....It had really nice, old school Invader mags on it. The original paint was great...Asking price was $3500. I kinda wished I had bought it, because it was a near twin to my '77.

Maybe I should be putting this in the classifieds. It's a virgin. Never laid down that I can tell. Clear title. It's pretty much original stock. Never butchered. 26000 miles. Original mostly unmolested wire harness (some connectors and heat damaged sections replaced.) Original instruments, turn signals, etc. Original paint and decals. Original tank and fenders. Top has been rebuilt .020 over. Bottom is original, and tight. Some of the chrome has lost its luster. Paint is not perfect, but pretty good.
What's not original is some bolt-on stuff. Mallory electronic ignition. Solid state voltage reg. O-ring chain. Mustang seat. V-Twin original reproduction mufflers. Stainless braided front brake hose. I still have some of the old stuff I took off.
I rescued it from a barn a few years ago and restored it to ride, and it's been a good one. I'm just getting too old to start the beast tho. Sounds like it would bring some good cash in the right location. I'm in western NC.
