Well lets see where to start, i used to have a big ol 103cu chopper full S-S and all that chrome for days a real head turner, thing is i just bought it like that. wasnt very proud of it. im a firm believer things happen for a reason, i had to sell it because the family needed a new truck for work and such so long story short i had enough after tax returns to buy what you see in the pic.
i found it on the net on a local classified add, so i took a road trip out in the boonies of NC. it was sitting under an overhang next to a barn pretty much out of the elements it was dirty and rusty and started right up. now i had called ahead so the owner may or may not have prepped it but i wanted it,
He gave me the run down of what he had done to it, a pretty long list and showed me where its issues were, nothing to bad. threw in a set of old saddle bags tool bag, original seat, backrest, set of points and such.
so i get it home and it runs rough and such, been busting the rust off flushing all the systems iv torn the mikuni carb apart twice now and its still not working right. will prolly just slap an s-s E on there. need to replace the chain as the back axle about as far back as i want it. it leaks badly and prolly needs all new gaskets, tires are not the best good tread but has sat a long time, front breaks wiggle, lots to do and prolly some stuff i have missed, but it will be a sweet journey, learning alot as i go.
cant wait to actualy ride it. work on it as much as i can with work and all, and my tool box growing. have the cylmers manual which has helped a little. but mostly i bother my buddies with questions lol.
Well iv looked up diagrams for the carb i just dont want to break it down to the point i ruin it. if anyone in the camp lejeune area knows about um i could use a hand. wouldnt mind learning a thing or two and saving money.
Is that a 1978? If so the front brake calipers are supposed to be loose. If they rattle too much you can replace the bushings in the fork legs and/or put o-rings on the caliper bolts.
