oil pressure issue?
finally found the time to fire up the 79 xlch chop after the rebuild and have fitted an after market oil filter and used clear reinforced oil line from the oil pump return to the filter then braided line from filter to oil tank so i could see that i have oil circulating to the filter but i only seem to get pulses of oil with a lot of air i have bled the pump via the oil pressure switch but that has made no difference is that normal or should it be a constant stream of oil ,i also have slight oil leaks that seem to coming from between the heads and barrels on both cylinders it runs down the fins onto the exhaust headers and burns off i have used new gaskets and have torqued the heads to the spec in the manual and have checked again to make absolutly sure yet i still have the problem, could really do with a bit of help here im so close to getting back on the road with her but dont want to run the risk of destroying a total rebuild thats taken me 2 years in 5 mins, cheerz guys
It would be rare, but certainly not impossible, to get oil thru a head gasket leak. Usuall you get a loud whistle souns as air squeeks out. However there are two oil holes; if the gasket seal is bad between the hole and the outer edge of the gasket, but good to the inner edge, you will get oil.
Stuff paper towels between the head and the cylinder fins. Clean it thoroughly first.
I have never used clear oil line so i do not know hwat it usually looks like in there.
