Thanks for the input shepdog. I was thinking wear on the parts at first also but not when I finally figured out where they went. Took me a long time...scratching my head...I found that the lesser screwed out (shorter) tappets are for the intake valves, and the longer two are for the exhaust valves.
I know I am still going to have to fine tune the tappet screws when it's times to but I feel better now that I know which one is which.
Ironhead Ed,
Last time I rebuilt my engine was in the period of 1995 to 2000.
During those 5 years my lifter bases and lifters got jumbled, big time.
I just put the lifters in the bases seeing which felt free and then stuck the assemblies in the engine.
No idea which one came out of where.
Yeah, I know better too, but my point I am trying to make is it will make no great difference.
I have never had a problem with mine since I got it back together in 2000.
pg
if you look closer that roller on the tappet on the right is toast--- you can buy new ones for like $50 .. a set of andrews "Y" cams would be an improvement also.. im NOT an andrews cam lover but the "Y" for a sporty is the best bang for the novice buck... a single fire ignition is a +++ also..
