My 78 has the king / queen seat from 78 with a high sissybar and a really nice eagle emblem. As much as I like these things, my "vision" of a sportster is a little sportier with a more diminished rear. Does anyone know where I can find a stock 78 seat? If not that than maybe a nice solo seat that fits the ironhead?
On the topic of seats, where in the FSM does it mention how to remove the seat? I have no clue!
Stock seats, new and used OEM and aftermarket, are all over eBay all the time. That is your best source. Otherwise any of the catalog/on-line companies such as J&P Cycles etc have them.
Removing the seat is a pain in the seat! The stock seat bolt is inserted from under the fender. If you have a long skinny arm you can reach up with the correct wrench and undo the stupid thing. Use a flashlite to find it. It helps to have small hands or a helpful child about 6 - 9 years old.
I modified mine to work like the newer models ... drilled a hole in the fender, inserted a seat nut, made a bracket, attached it to the seat, Voila!
Ya they come up on ebay all the time but you got to be there to watch it till the end if you want it ...been envoled in a couple bidding wars just haven't got one for the right price yet ..I hate ebay !
IMO the only way to manage eBay is to bid within the last minuite of the auction. I have been using eBay for the past 8 years, have made the best part of 100 purchases, and have never dealt with a bad seller. I received a bad part one time when i did not examine the pics closely enough, and i bid too much one time when i did not understand how it worked.
eBay is awesome! Swap meets are pretty well empty of IronHead parts. The parts i purchased thru eBay i could not have purchased anywhere else. Never bid before the last minute. It works.
Thanks for that info, I thought I was crazy that I couldn't find where it was attached. Saw some nice stock seats on ebay, gonna check in with the indie shop first as they have a barn full of old parts too.
