hey all, 1973 ironhead xlch. have had trouble with getting bendix dialed in right. thought I might be condenser probs so got a whole new points plate. put it on, gapped to .018,set the static, etc. also took carb, manifold off to check O rings out. who ever had it before me knew the electric tape trick! O rings looked ok,I put manifold back on,put knew tape around connections, carb back on,ok.
here is problem. when I kick the bike over, started first kick! but idle is through the roof? sounded like throttle was wide open. I adjusted idle down on carb, even tried to redard the plate counterclockwise to slow it down. doesn't seem to change? not sure where to look next?
from your explain of things - my guess is you throttle blade in the carb is binding up and not closing, or maybe the throttle cable is to tight and holding open the thorttle
check it out take the air filter off and look in just as it is and see if the throttle is closed -
thanks guys, was the throttle plate???? somehow when I took the carb off it got opened just enough. cable not bound or anything so loosened the throttle cable, closed the plate and retightened. seems fine now.
