I've got mini apes on mine and I'll tell ya the truth, I like 'em way better than drag bars. Just make sure you have a solid upper clamp on 'em.
A pic of my bike before I tore it down is in the "Lets see some pics of ironheads" thread.
I like the feeling of control over the bike they have.
As far as full sized apes, I just think they'd look odd.
I was kinda thinknig the same thing. Might be why no one else has posted pics of having them
Thanks and I will check out and see what your looked like.
Never rode w/ apes before but a friend of mine just finished building a Honda 750 chopper with 12" apes. The bike looks and sounds awesome. Took it for a spin and couldnt believe how comfortable the apes actually were. Was going to get a set for my fatboy but sold it before I got a chance.
I love apes, as you can see in my sig. I will tell you one thing though, if you put 16' apes on and you have rubber mounts, get rid of them and get yourself the solid mounts, you will have way more control of the bars. I hade 12' apes with four inch risers and left the rubber mounts in and it was very squssy,, I changed to the solid mounts, man what a difference. I am now rebuilding the bike below, I now have 16' apes and 2' risers, Rear struts instead of the shockes, I will post pics when the tins get back from paint..
With the fat tank it will probably look really good. Can't wait to see pics. I am putting together a 84 basket on a custom frame right now. Fatbob tanks, low and wide, apes are surely in the plans for that bike. Just couldnt picture them on my 69.
Keep us posted on your progress.
