will not go into gear
I just purchased a 1947 EL knucklehead , restored several years ago , only has 50 miles since done . After starting it and running the bike for fifteen minutes a lot of the bolts and nuts were loose so i shut it down tightened some loose bolts . After that bike would not kick over , removed the side cover to expose the clutch and had to back off the center bolt of the clutch so the it would kick over . there is too much play in the rod that goes across to the transmission , i have not removed the cover as of yet , not sure what happened , judging by how many bolts and nuts were loose ; Is it possible something has fallen apart as the rod seems to have no resistance but I do see slight movement when I look through the fill hole . I never had one of these side covers off on one this old . Any help would be appreciated , I am getting a repair manual just dont have one yet .
Thanks

Heyward
my guess it was an amateur restoration by someone with limited ability - nuts and bolts falling out and coming loose after one start up is the proof of that
while the clutch is not a big deal parts not installed at all or incorrectly will hand you an expensive set of bills if your not real handy - the problem you face is shops will tell you they work on them because they need the work, and will cause even more issues and remove some of the real pieces as they are incredibly expensive today switching them out --BE CAREFULL
I hope you take heed to what I said
ask any thing you want on this site, many of the guys will be able to help, and send pictures of what you see and try and use the correct names for things and OEM part numbers help as well
welcome to the site and good luck with you new project
