The truth is, they don't have to justify anything to anyone. The price is what it is, and either people will buy it or they won't. It doesn't matter how much it costs them to build it, it only matters whether end customers will buy enough of them to have made it worthwhile.

That's the great thing about the Lightning -- if you want it, and can afford it, then -- go buy it. Nothing's stopping you.
Well the reason I got the sporty in the first place is because it HAS an air cooled motor, pushrods, old reliable tech and a build quality 😬 worth 13 K ( or so I thought ) and it’s affordable. The engine design and model has been round since the 50’s, So the bugs should have been worked out ( Unlike the poor stage 4 souls on their M8’s.

You mention a $1000 Chinese sportster knock off .. please post a link to that thanks.

I don’t care what it costs the MoCo to build ****, But if I see anything im intersteded in and it’s value for money I’ll buy it.

As for the live wire, The price of parts break down frame, wheels, tires, electric motor, and batteries vs what ya get for ya 30K Is laughable,
As others have said the price just ain’t worth it.

Yeah I’ll buy a lightning if it’s worth it as it’s a hell of a lot better in value than what HD’s putting out there and it goes to market in a coupe months.

But ya know if you like Harley’s E Bike so much and your so defending of the brand, order one and post the sales receipt here, I’ll have a lot more respect for ya then.

As far as the company don’t have to justify anything ?.

The arrogance the mo co has now as to I’ll build it and if ya don’t like it tough **** attitude = V Rod.

A Big song and dance about a new V Rod model , HD even did a big documentary on TV with Williy G and the design team that built it, And how long did it last 3 years ?.

This is Harley’s problem,They’ve lost touch with its loyal customer base, People want a Harley that looks, sounds and rides like one AT a reasonable price.

I understand why they did it to show off what their capable of moving forward but an overpriced electric Harley ? One on 🤣

They may as well call it V Rod II

Can I afford a live wire. Yeah, will I pay 30 grand for one.... **** no.

By the way I just Wizzed in ya boot 🍻
Keep safe man

Its a no brainer. And the likelihood is that HD will be facing a much larger player once Lightning or Zero gets acquired by a larger motorcycle maker.

If the LW was $20k it would stand a chance because of the dealer network. But at $30k I don’t see how it makes it past the first couple of years. And HD isn’t known for lowering their prices so the LW will only go higher from $30k. IMO the LW will be pulled from the market faster than Buell.
Agreed.

I just looked on https://www.bikesales.com.au/bikes/h...ear&offset=180, and they show 183 used V-Rods for sale, model years 2002 through 2017...

HDs are all about looks. The Zero looks inexpensive. The LW looks top shelf. Under the shell, they may well be the same thing, but HD caters to those who like nice shells.

That might be true for Boomers, but I doubt it applies to the thinking of millennials. $30k will definitely test whether your thinking still applies today and for E bikes.

Harlem thinks they know their base, and I'll wager they do. This is what Harley Davidson thinks people will pay for this level of machine - and be happy with it.

Sad part is, some will pay it and be happy. But we all know this thing will die a painful death. How slow is up for debate.

Given their sales and market share declines of the past 6 or 7 years, it's doubtful they've gotten the target audience and pricing on the LW right either.
