I have 650 miles on my 2017 Road King. It has developed a rattle at idle that seems to be coming from the primary. Not terribly loud, but disturbing. Any ideas if this is normal?
Not sure what oil your using in your primary, if it is syn3 you need to replace it with formula plus or redline or an oil of your choosing. The syn3 is to thin of an oil for the primary. It could also be a compensator going bad. Good luck with your findings.
I found out that the noise I was hearing was the left side floorboard rattling. I drove myself crazy for about a week before I happened to put my hand on the floorboard while the engine was running. I felt pretty dumb. I have oner 3000 miles on it now. Everything is great.

Thank so much for posting this info I picked up a bike this weekend SGS M8, and couple of times I heard the rattle but couldn't figure out the where the noise was coming from, it only happened a couple of time while at idle.
Next time I hear the rattle I'll check the floor boards!!!
I'm glad someone finally figured out "what that damn noise is" coming from the primary case. I've been fighting with my bike now for a year trying to figure out what I'm hearing. I've replaced the stator, Baker Rotor, Baker compensator, Baker chain tensioner, IPB and race. I'm still hearing a squeal that could be clutch related now.
After reading this, I'm going to start looking for some other things now.
I hear a slight "neutral rattle" when I pull into the garage and slip the tranny into neutral before I kill the engine. Every day I keep learning that the M8 is a different animal than we are used to. I guess I would say that it is not your fathers twin cam or Evo.
