Default Stereo Question, does this sound right

Ok, I am looking at changing the saddle bag lids to add 6x9 speakers. Got my parts list together and was about to order. Looked at the amp I am planning to use and thought hmmm a 4 channel amp with a 2 channel head unit. So I call a dealer to get priced on flashing the head unit to allow for 4 channel output on the head unit and was told that it would not work unless I use HD approved equipment. IMMEDIATELY I was like, no way this is just the output for the head unit. I do not think the head unit is getting a signal back from the speakers to alert the system that there are none approved speakers installed. I can obviously split the signal at the amp, but why do that when I have the ability to have 4 channels at the head unit.

Just curious to see if anyone else has heard of HD flashing not working with none approved speakers.

Well your best to jump over to the Rushmore audio section and start reading, there are many many options to chose from. Sadly though to flash the head unit to offer you full control of fade and balance, you have to have HD Boom equipment installed, if it's not BOOM the latest version of Digi Tech won't allow the radio to be flashed. Not the end of the world though. Regardless you need to eliminate the DSP settings that HD has your current head unit flashed to in order to get quality sound from an amp, either using line levelers or magic box or such. After that it's a straight forward install. Ask around and see if a near by Dealer will flash your bike to 2 amps 8 speakers and this will work as well. (CVO Street Glide Set up) then just use your front speaker outputs, to amp w setting for 2 channel input, 4 Outputs.

Yep... the MoCo took a page out of Apple's book. Gotta use their stuff if you want it to "work properly".
I've also heard stories (can't confirm) of aftermarket stuff randomly stop working.
There's getting to be quite a few cages out there that you can't replace the radio, or modify the system, yourself either.
