Probably should have researched it before I spouted off....
I'd say you pointed yourself in the right direction..

IMO, I suspect that most of the favoring O tings over base gaskets stems from the reputation of old EVOs.. They were notorious for base gasket leaks.. The problem is that they ran hot when emissions restrictions kept in heat and coupled along with poor machining creates leaks.

I can't recall a past mechanical problem that MOCO has refused to address and repair. My advice is if you want a new M8,buy it with the knowledge that MOCO will stand behind its products.

As usual, anytime the MoCo comes out with something new all the Chicken Littles wil claim the sky is falling as soon as even one person has an issue. Been on the forum a long time and it happens every time. Happened when the Rushmores were released. There could be 10 zillion of them running great but if one guy has an issue then some will claim we are all Beta testers and the guys start claiming they will keep there 2003 whatever will come outa the woodwork. Think what you want, I've had 2 M8s already and both have been flawless. I've owned 5 BMWs and they too had issues that Motorad had to address, one was a surging issue a few years back. If ya don't like them, don't buy one. MoCo will stand behind the product.

Only 3200 on mine since new in Feb. Still workin and only ride on weekends.
No problems, no transfer. Smiling like the first time I threw a leg over a Harley 3 years ago.

Man listen .....you just said it all and I AGREE!!! Think I've been here since 2005. I've come to find that there is a forum opinion and then --get out there and meet people opinion-- I visit a number of dealerships within 2 hours of me and I talk with people as well as the service departments ----most appear to be extremely happy! When I mention a "forum" issue .....they say....haven't seen any bikes come in for that and then I walk back outside through a maze of 17 models being ridden by happy owners

I've had mine exactly one month. Only been able to put about 800 miles on it so far and love it. I've had several other Harley's, evo and two TCs. Stage one came quickly with those bikes. With the M8 I'm only looking for slipons just to gain some sound and I've been procrastinating doing that simply because the bike is so good out of the box.

But they have not fixed the current issues yet, have they? I don't deal in the future much. I prefer the "here and now". Keep in mind that I own one of these bikes affected and so far neither the dealer nor the manufacture has made any effort to fix it. After 3 months all I hear is let's continue to monitor the fluid levels. They won't even admit to the problem.
Until they admit to the problem and step up to the plate and fix customers bikes, my council will stay the same- STAY THE HELL AWAY. If they fix the bikes I will change my recommendation.

I've just clicked over 6K on the My 2017 m8. I really like the bike.. It's by far one of the best bikes HD has produced out of the box. The original power band caters to typical HD crowd with plenty of low end Tq.. I run a stage II tq cam with stock mufflers and power delivery is much more to my liking..

I've got the fluid transfer issue but it's pretty minor.. It seems to only occur when doing a lot of the higher speed commuting on freeways. Running it hard in the mountains doesn't seem to cause the transfer. I suspect that even tho I hit over 5K that the actual time above 3K is very low.

Handling is very good though my 02 RKC feels better The RKC is not stock. Stock to Stock the M8 would smoke the RKC.

Motor is nice and quiet except it rattles a bit at idle when temps are above 90F and the motor is hot.

The only thing that irritates me is the clutch and shifting.. It's the worse clunker I've had so far..

Still it's a really nice bike... I don't have any regrets.

5,000 miles on my '17 RGS. No leaks, no oil usage, no oil migration, no electrical gremlins, no nothing but a quieter, cooler, more powerful engine, smoother shifting transmission, much better suspension and faster bike than the '15 RGS that I traded in.

Count me in as very happy. Only issue was a badly installed Stage 2 kit, dealer stepped up and fixed it, no questions asked.

I wouldnt wait just because you have read on a forum that a few people have had issue, thats crazy. If your ready for a new bike, get it!
