On the stock the left side is bigger than the right and your standard slipons are made for that size. The SE system they used a proprietary size on both sides so that standard slipons could not be used easily. This is to comply with the EPA so that it can t be tampered with or defeated for emissions.
If you don t care about epa then just get an aftermarket head pipe that will work with all standard slipons available. There is zero benefit to the SE system unless you like the sound of the SE mufflers that can only be used with it.
Disclaimer: I do not know exact diameter of the pipes either stock or SE. I just know that slipons do not work with the SE headpipes.
Once again your comments and help are appreciated. Thanks
need some truth: I was thinking about how to get rid of the Cat without voiding the warranty so I thought I would put SE head pipes on with aftermarket slip-ons. My local HD shop maintenance guy said it wouldn't work, the SE heads have different "angles" that will only fit SE mufflers. This just seems wrong and I wanted to verify. Is there any truth to what he said?(aside from the angel of getting more $ for the SE mufflers)
I'm running RC slip on mufflers on my 2017 Glide and used another approach. Instead of going with an after market head pipe, I purchased a stock de-catted version on eBay for $149. The bike sounds great, runs cooler, and everything fit perfectly
true, SE head pipes with aftermarket mufflers don't work. For EPA reasons, the cat must be included somewhere; either the head pipe or mufflers. They designed it that way for that reason. You'll need to go outside of Harley/SE to completely lose the cat. Lots of mixed info on what the local dealers will do as far as warranty coverage is concerned. I had my local HD shop install third-party headers and mufflers, and am using the SE tuner. So far they have honored warranty work, as they had originally promised. I would ask them before you do anything. They are the guys you will turn to if or when you have a serious problem.
Buy the full SE exhaust with the SE header with the cats in the mufflers, then buy another set of SE mufflers and decat those. Keeping the stock mufflers with the cats for service work.
Seems like a lot of work if the OP isnt worried about voiding the warranty. If thats the case, like someone else said here...go full aftermarket. Much cheaper and probably better quality to boot.

Reason: typo
I have RC header and slip ons going on my 17 Road Glide, hopefully sometime this week. Not by any means cheap with SE breather and tune but tired of riding a sewing machine. Personally I can't see how anyone could keep the bike stock but that's me.
