Question from a harley noob. The only other street bike I had was a 99 honda aero. Sounded as good as a metric cruise could with V&H long shots.
Sitting still, I could hit the throttle and first little twist it would explode with sound.
Now with my new 17 RGS, it doesn't do that. Usually, the first little twist is almost like it doesn't get enough fuel to pop at all. Second twist usually gets the pipes singing though. Is this typical of all Harley's in general? Or more of an M8 thing?
Not bashing or complaining, just curious as my mild OCD likes to know how things work. lol
sounds like you expected it to be crisp like a well jetted 2 stroke dirt bike..not happening with big v twin Harleys..did you notice this before you added the slip-ons?..kind of surprised to find just adding some slip-ons without a tune on these M8's does make a difference albeit small..welcome to the Harley World!

I honestly cant say how it was before the slip on's. I road the bike only a week before getting them on. No tune.
But, just put the stage 1 air cleaner on last night, and planning on doing the tune tonight or in the morning.
Keep in mind, that your bike is throttle by electrical control. Basically, there is a small step motor on the throttle body. It's mainly there so if you snap off the throttle to full off while slowing down, the oxygen sensors, MAP and TPS will know it. They open the throttle slightly to allow air to burn off the extra rich mixture left in the intake.
This allows better emission control and Harley to actually tune bike for more power.
Bet if just turn it a little further, it will do what you expect. Do not rev it too hard in neutral. Not good for all that spinning mass.
I know back in the early 2000s when these systems came out in cars, they were geared (electrically) way too fast. Just a small amount of throttle produced a lot of speed and power. Wasted a lot of fuel. They have gone the other way in most cars. Not sure about the bikes.

Some tuners allow you to change the throttle progressivity, FP3 being one, you can set it standard, moderate, aggressive, 1-1 race and it makes a huge differnece! Aggressive and race setting are so crisp and instant it's awesome.

Ahh good to know. Thanks! I guess though ill have to live with the SE tuner for now until my warranty is up.
double check that..think TP is an option on SEPST but I could be mistaken
It made such an improvement for me that I would buy the tuner just for this feature. Like you said, I'm not sure if the street tuner has it or not but if it does you will love the crispness and instant throttle response
