Im gonna do the listed mods above regardless and if it fixes it great. Not gonna do anything to it untill first service and i atleast give harley a chance to see what they think. If it is indeed a real ping im hearing.
Ok, putting my ignorance out on my sleeve........ as a test, what about adding octane boost to see what results you get? The reason I'm asking is because I have the same thing going on with a SE Stage IV kit and RCX cans. Infact, I was trying to figure out how to describe the sound and I said to myself, "It sounds like pea gravel hitting my front fender". Yesterday I thought about adding some myself but the dealership came today to take my bike in for the dreaded 2 page "test and check" email from HD HQ, so, maybe I can try it out next week. Do you guys think it might help?

Well i actually thought about that this morning during my ride to work. So i may stop and get some during lunch. Im running premium gas and dont want to make it to strong by adding octane booster. Hopefully someone can chime in that knows about it and can give there thoughts as well.
Why is hd hq doing a two week test on your bike if you dont mind me asking? Are they doing it because of the upgrades you got or are they investigating the ping?
It's the "2 page email" test that MoCo is sending out to dealers that are investigating the transmission oil migration into the primary case issue. I hope it's not 2 weeks, lol!

DANG. I dont think i have the oil migration issue. An hope it stays that way. I would be ticked off if the dealer had my bike for 2 weeks right now in the middle of riding season. Have you talked to yoyr dealer about the pinging? If so what did they say?
Try running an external crankcase vent, very EZ on the M8,
"oil has a significantly lower auto-ignition temperature and will ignite early causing detonation in sufficient volumes"
"oil lowers the effective octane of the fuel, so if the blow-by gasses cannot vent out of the crankcase they will re-enter the combustion chamber and reduce the effective octane"
I found this online. I wonder if this may be the problem....
There’s also a genuine knock sensor attached to each head. (No more using the spark plugs for that purpose.) These sensors don’t just help prevent detonation. In combination with the twin spark plugs, they improve combustion efficiency by holding things within proper parameters, which, in turn, reduces engine heat under any given load. A win-win for rider comfort and clean-burn emissions.

yea well my 103 dont have that and it dont "ping" like my m8. I put a little octane booster in during my lunch break and if it helped it was very little. What puzzels me is why i can only really hear it on my left side (clutch side) almost sounds like a old sporster i had the clutch handle would rattle. An if your setting up right with head in the wind its even harder to hear. Taking it for service in the morning. My ocd is gonna be the death of me. Once i hear something in a motor or around it it drives me freakin nuts untill i fix it.
Wondering if it is even possible that maybe the fuel pump is making the noise? Also think im gonna have plugs checked and may have them replaced. I did baby the crap out of it when breaking in. Next one if i ever get another one im gonna ride the **** out of it that way if it delelopes a issue atleast i can say its my fault. Ha
