I was at Milwaukee Harley Davidson on Wednesday and saw a new Fat Boy and Fat Bob and Heritage.I commented about the oil cooler and was told that all new softails are water cooled heads. They do not have fans, cooled with air flow.

What I want to know is how cold I can ride before I risk freezing up. I ride as low as 10 degrees and a little less at times in CO. At 50 or 60 the wind chill is way below zero. I assume it is a issue with how good the coolant is.

I can tell you my 2017 CVO is performing perfect at 5,800 miles so far. No issues.

This reminds me of when I bought my first new Harley back in 2002. The salesman said that the frame on a 1200 Sportster was "beefier" than the frame on the 883.

I did meet a Harley engineer,Who said that the oil cooled bikes run as cool as water cooled bikes. This could explain why the touring bikes are the only water cooled bikes.

The 2018 Touring lineup aren't water cooled, only the Ultras and CVOs are water cooled (well, "Twin Cooled").

My understanding (and could be wrong) is that the Ultras are liquid cooled because there's so much fairing everywhere that it would interfere with air cooling.
