Since I am a new M8 owner I have a question. It is hard to describe a sound but here goes. At idle there is a noise that is sort of like a chirp that seems to come from the gear cover area. Don't notice it at all once under way. It this a characteristic of the engine? Thanks

I get what I would best describe as a chirp when going slow ( 5mph or less) and chopping the throttle as I coast around a turn. Some folks in here have suggest the "chirps" might be cause by exhaust clamps and or brackets so you might want to check those.
Honestly I would give it a few miles before I would take it in. I have seen some people mention something similar. I personally didn't notice anything on my bike like that.

Thanks. Twin cams didn't do it. But Evos had a characteristic chirp. Gotta learn the normal sounds for this engine. I move the heatshields a bit and tightened the exhaust. Still there.
Mine does the same thing,I put a fuelmoto header on it.
i have tightened my exhaust shields and it still does it going to take off shields and see if it still does it this weekend.
Mine used to sound like a little bird was in the air cleaner idling at a light. I switched the filter out to a K&N high flow and re-mapped the ECM with the street tuner and it has pretty much gone away. When I first got the bike I was like WTF for a while. It's not irritating just different. Like you I was like "is it supposed to do that?"..... LOL
