Default Extended Brake Lever Install Question on Twin Cooled M8

I just picked up a new to me 2017 Ultra Limited and like a lot of folks, I find the rear brake lever to be a little cumbersome - especially since I'm 6'3". I've ordered the Kuryakyn extended pedal model 9673 (black w/lowers) to gain a little room for my right foot. I've seen the various threads regarding the install on this part, but haven't seen anything specific to the Twin-Cooled M8. After looking at the various install instructions and online videos, the trick to getting the brake lever installed is to remove the lower engine guard bolts, loosen the top, and swing the engine guard up out of the way enough to get the new lever in. With wet heads and the associated liquid cooling system in the lower fairings it looks like I'm going to have to drain the coolant system and partially disconnect the coolant lines / fan wires in order to be able to swing the engine guard out.

I'm looking for some feedback from anyone that's done this install to confirm I'm headed down the right path with what I'm thinking it's going to take to install the new brake lever. I'm pretty confident in my wrenching skills, but this may be a little too involved - I'd hate to pay the dealer labor rates to get this done if it's not that big a deal, but don't want to get in over my head either. Thanks!

I just completed this same job on my 2017 CVO Ltd. I did not need to drain coolant. Just pulled the lower engine guard bolts & loosened the top as you mentioned. It doesn't take much, you should be fine.

Not sure where the engine guard comes into play. I never touched mine to replace the brake lever. Remove floorboard. Remove exhaust shield. Remove pivot pin after removing coder pin. Remove bolts from brake reservoir to give yourself some room to work the old lever out. On reassembly, consider inserting the pivot pin from the inside out to make it easier to get the coder pin back in. I put the Soft-Ride pedal on mine. Perhaps Kuryakyn has has different requirements.

SoftRide Extended Pedal also. On my previous 2014 and current 2017 Limited, I found the hardest part to do was removing and then replacing the cotter pin. I only removed the floorboard.

Thanks I’ll try it without moving the guard first and see if I can get it in there. Maybe the “with fairing” model brake pedal is a little shorter and doesn’t interfere.

This is what I did. No reason to touch the crash bar. At all. 3 bolts holding the brake master cylinder on. It drops down and it takes about 20 minutes total to install.
