Today it was about 75* and I noticed my EITMS engaging when I stopped. In fact I was riding at about 50 mph for several miles and as soon as I stopped at a light the EITMS engaged instantly. I was under the impression that the EITMS should only engage on hotter days in stop and go traffic. Does this kind of operation sound normal? What have your experiences been with the EITMS operation? Oh I have a 2018 Softail Lowrider M8.

I have had mine kick on at 79 degrees before on my Limited. Might be lower for the new oil cooled engines? IDK.
I believe 80 degrees is the magic number for the ambient temp... But mine has kicked in below 80 outside... I just figured the pavement is usually putting off some heat also. It definitely kicks in more on my 18 SGS then it did on my 16 Softail Slim S.
Finally figured how to turn the EITMS on and off by rolling the throttle forward and holding it until it switches either on or off........Page 78 I believe. My 114 '18 Heritage Softail comes on most every time when idling after riding. I like the way it sounds. Just turned 6,000 miles. Last tank of Mid Grade gas after a 140 mile more or less easy ride gave me 50 MPG, simply amazing.
It must be a stock tune that runs lean to have the system kicking in so often:
EITMS will activate (rear cylinder will turn off) when all of the following conditions are met:
Engine temperature is greater than 287°F domestic 165°C international
Twist grip opening is at idle
Vehicle speed under 1 mph 2 km/h Engine speed under 1200 RPM
EITMS will disable (rear cylinder will again fire) if any one of the following occurs:
Engine temperature falls below 275°F domestic 135°C international

Your right ! 80 degrees is the outside ambient temp that it kicks in for the M8. Does not work from engine temp. anymore.
I find it hard to believe they starting using an ambient air temperature sensor to engage the system installed of a sensor that monitors actual engine temp.
Yeah I noticed this, too, immediately upon riding my 2018 RGU the first time. Ambient temps in Santa Fe NM were in the 40's and 50's f. Riding in light city traffic, the EITMS would engage almost immediately at every light.
My 2016 TC 103 had to get pretty hot before EITMS engaged.
Also, it seemed to me that the EITMS on the 2018 was affecting the idle. I was having a lot of erratic idle problems, which mostly turned out to be the clutch switchback, which has lately been replaced.
I got used to riding without the EITMS, and now I keep it disengaged. I never ride in parades, and would never let my bike sit and idle sitting still for very long. We can split lanes out here in CA so we pretty much can keep moving at all times. EITMS only comes on at a stand-still. Having it active at slow moving speeds accomplishes nothing. If I ever find myself in a parade, I'll engage it at that time.
I also turn mine off, I can't stand it coming on at every light. You can manually force it on by rolling the throttle forward if you will be sitting for a few.
