Default Sticky Gas Lid 18' SGS

I have a 18' SGS that I bought in January. Last week I went to get gas and the lid no longer pops up. I have to push the button and pull the lid up by the rim. I've tried lubing everything with no results. Has anyone had issues? I'm assuming there's a spring somewhere but I haven't torn it apart yet.

The latch might need alignment. If it’s off a little it can cause this. Simple to fix,

I bought and installed one of those HD "lockable" latches, and I can't get it to pop open unless I use something other than my finger to address the little push button in the center of the lock. If I push it with, say, a house key, and pull the key away briskly, it pops open every time. I don't mind this, because somebody trying to get into my gas tank would have the same problem and not be able to figure it out. The secret is to pull away quickly. There isn't much spring action on the lid.

Locking latches used to be standard on stock models. Some were replaced with aftermarket push button latches. Always a trade off between security vs convenience...
