My 2018 Fat Boy 114 has developed a vibration that was not there before. At about 2300 rpm it starts and by 2500 rpm it is more severe and an audible "hum" is present.
Could this have anything to do with the oil issue?
I plan to check the levels this week end.
Thanks.
Need more description. Vibration through the handlebars or seat? Is the source of the hum you're hearing from the engine? Does it seem to be more on one side than the other? Can you feel this vibration only in gear moving or can it be felt in neutral if you rev the engine to 2500.
RobertJO,
The vibration seems to come from both the handle bars and seat, though I noticed
it first in the handle bars. I can't tell where the sound is coming from yet,
but will check this weekend.
When shifting, I can feel it in the rpm ranges from 2300 and up as I shift, so
it is in all gears and not a tire or belt issue. Going downhill at 70 mph
(about 2500 rpm), the vibration and sound stop when the clutch is disengaged.
At 70 mph, the engine still feels normal...I can punch it and get the
acceleration as usual, but there seems to be a drag and the hum is still
present.
Is it possible that the noise and vibration are coming from the transmission
and/or the primary?
There are now 5500 miles on the bike.
Thanks for your help.

It is indeed possible that the source of your issue lies somewhere in the primary or tranny. Since the bike is under warranty , I'd get a service rep to acknowledge the symptom and go from there. A removal of the primary cover may be in order to inspect the tensioner and check torque on the compensator nut as a start. Otherwise I'd recommend checking all of the oil levels as soon as possible.
Get it back into your dealer have them work on it under warranty
especially if it's consistent/repeatable for them on a test ride..and they have a new one to ride and compare it with..if you left your powertrain warranty intact and they want to break into the engine then that's the way to go obviously
Thanks for all your input. I changed all of the fluids and levels were pretty accurate. I checked the chains/tensioner and all looked good. Rode it again with the same issues...around 70 mph it still vibrates pretty bad. Pretty sure it's in the drive train.
Bringing it to the dealer tomorrow night. I'm hoping that the muffler upgrade won't give them a problem.
