Before we all panic, consider all the reports of sumping and associated heat with burnt oil smell. It's odd that no one else has reported that the intake manifold had melted.
No, its odd that you havent noticed that several have reported melted intake manifolds.

The Bike Week and Sturgis Main Street duck walk fests have melted a few for sure. Rossmeyer's had a few out of town bikes in their service department for that very thing year before last.

And note that the 64mm SE manifold for the M8 is also aluminum; think they might have known something?
I believe they did that because, unlike the stock M8 throttle body/intake, the SE unit has no attaching points for a support bracket. The only thing supporting the TB and air cleaner on the SE unit is the intake manifold itself. Or it could be the other way around. Who really knows?

Yes, The SE filters ditch that bracket/brace, But The new backing plates become the support, attach to the heads and secured by the Breather bolts,Nothing is supported by the manifold. Some of the aftermarket units ask the installer to check for any shimming that may be needed at the attachment point so to not stress that manifold when the bolts are tightend. On your stock setup, the backing plate is plastic where the SE is not, so the brace is needed to support the TB
Blast to the Past: Shovel Head guys remember those that changed out the stock air filters. The aftermarket filters left it to the owner to fab up a support for the carb. Quite a few guys did not and wished they did when their knee kicked the filter and knocked the manifold seals out. Good way to burn up your motor.
