Hello, I know this is a loaded question. I currently have a Powervision and have used it on multiple bikes through the years. I'm researching performance mods for my current bike (2019 Road Glide Special). I've pretty much decided on a D&D billet cat exhaust, Zippers Red Shift cam and Harley high flow air intake. I keep seeing the Thunder max as a common tuner when reading about different performance upgrades.
My question, is there any benefit to the Thunder max compared to the Power Vision from a performance point of view?
I've ran the entire gamete of tuners and IMO the TMax seems to suit me the best. The wide band O2 sensors are what really make the difference, but they are a bit pricey. With that said, there aren't many out there that will be able to put you bike on a dyno and tune it with a Tmax, though Zippers has excellent customer support for any mapping questions.
Correct if I’m wrong but isn’t the thundermax a piggyback? Meaning you don’t actually flash the ECM. I’ve used powervision for years and people from all around my neighborhood come to me to get a license and tune.

A power commander would be an example of a piggy back tuner because it works in tandem with the stock ECM and has to stay connected to the bike. With Thundermax, you simply remove the factory ECM and put the TMAX in its place. Great for warranty work because as you stated., it never writes to or alters the factory ECM in any way. You can always pop the stock ECM back in if you need to.
$769 is steep for a tuner! (Tmax) that's a power vision and dyno tune, are those things really worth that kind of money?
Theres a lot of hidden value in a Thundermax. For example, some features that you would normally have to go to the dealer for and have the bike flashed to be enabled, Thundermax has some of those features enabled by default. Also, ithe TMax continuously and dynamically tunes your bike based on altitude and riding style unlike flash tuners, where you need to re-run your auto tune. In addition, it has features like making your check engine light blink in the even your bike overheats. A small but useful feature that Harley left out.
