Check your service manual. For the last few years, SYN3 is second choice for primary and transmission. Dealer is thinking $$. What is interesting is there is only a couple dollars difference between SYN3 and Formula +.
seen $20 difference in an oil change.
Ask them for me if the SYN3 is harder to pour in.
On that new of bike, either should make little difference in sound.
Have not see a M8 owners manual.

The owners manual says to use Formula plus. But the invoice for the service on mine shows that they put Syn3 in it.
Yeah, I used formula plus and with only 6700 mile, its hard to imagine the chain tensioner could be shot. When I have time, Ill open the primary and see whats going on. Thanks for the replies!

It's supposed to be self adjusting? Some have said that the new slip transmission maybe causing it to not adjust.
I don't know if that's true or not. Just passing along something that I read. Don't exactly know where I read it either.

That has been going round since the auto adjust came out. Don't start it on the M8.
Even if it needs to adjust, it probably won't happen for 40-50k and then one step.
My bike at 50k has been adjusted one time and really did not need that. (Is manual)
The auto one is a slightly smaller step. It also has two heavy coil springs in it's base as pre-tensioners that give it the impression it is too tight unless you push pretty firmly. That is why it is quiter then a manual one.

Well it's old (2000 FLTRSEI,) and I know that the tensioners are different ( I've run an M6 since new,) but the oil has always been Wal-Mart 20-50 dino changed out every 5,000 miles ( $2.59 / qt,) and the bike now has 165,000 miles on it with the original chain, clutch, compensating sprocket and clutch basket. The shoe on the M6 is original as well. Oil doesn't seem to be the issue here.
