Probably could get a rougher idea of the amount of oil being left in the sump by careful use of the dipstick.

SB1450 says to pull the sensor. Probably get a much more accurate and immediate measure that way.

2 off us did that procedure a bunch of times on one bike we ( oct 16) knew would get traded after 40 k.......the test is so inconsistent that we don’t even bother with it anymore. You’ll wear out the cases and your brain worring about something that happens mostly...now not always...but mostly when the purchase has a fat wallet or great financing and buys ever stupid stage kit the dealer can BS them into buying. Most of the MOCO techs only get paid to just bolts it on....no clearance checks...no end gap checks...no pulling piston oilers and checkin. Just bolt it on and send it... Than bs you about your big big.....lol. Some of these independent guys to this day building these m8 motors.....use stock oil pumps and plates with no problems other than few venting tricks.Build big hp and torque that lasts. But hey the warranty...lmao

Why is HD advising owners how to live with THEIR defective product?

Because they have been doing it for over 50 years of my life....lol. They can . They should just sell these farm tractors 3-5 grand cheaperbwith no warranty like a HP race car or? Warranty is something the newer/ older breed rider needs. We never took a bike back 25 years ago...he’ll it was pulled apart the week we got it and getting chrome and cams. Lol

I’ve been riding and modifying my bikes for a LONG time In the past, so long as you didn’t get into radical surgery on the bike. the MOCO still honored the warranty. Those days are over and the days of aftermarket engine mods are quickly coming to an end, just as it has with cars. Sure, there will always be a handful of guys modding bikes in the future but the next generation is “plug & play”. No interest in ripping apart a factory engine.

I believe you’re seeing the final days of heavy after-market engine and exhaust modifications heading into the sunset along with the Boomer generation (I’m one of them)

This may or may not be relivent to this discussion. I just recently found that when checking the oil level on my 2018 M8 Softail if I let the bike when hot idle two minutes on the jiffy stand for two minutes then shut it down and wait a couple minutes and check the oil level. The oil level reads three dots low on the dipstick. Now if I let it idle upright for two minutes then put it on the jiffy stand. The oil level reads three dots higher on the dip stick over the previous reading. It seems that letting idle while upright let's the oil get sucked out of the sump. I know that HD states that idling on the jiffystand for two minutes is the reçommended procedure but it would appear this will cause the oil level to read low.

yeah, $tonecold said that the scavenge port on the oil pumps is on the 'high side' so when tilted the opposite direction (on jiffy) it doesn't have the full opportunity to return as much oil to the tank..I took his advice about better off idling upright then checking on jiffy using the jiffy stand reading on the dipstick obviously..my observations are as yours and seems like the more accurate way to determine proper fluid levels..i guess it doesn't matter as long as you pick one way and stick with it, with the understanding that you will have a little bit more oil left in the system when on the jiffy so be mindful of that when considering to add oil

Most good techs will tell you to do as you do.....not on the jiffy stand. Plus good ones will tell u to run it 3-4 dots below full. We run ever touring chassis ( oil pan) 3 dots below add.......never use a drop of oil between oil changes. That’s on 5-6 m8 touring. No experience with your plat form
