I understood your question because I had the same question when I did the work on my bike. And BTW: The customer service at V&H is, IMHO, top shelf. And for the record I do not work for V&H in any manner

The FP3 will store the last flashed map (in this case the dealer SE tune for stage 2) as the base map. You can autotune from that map before or after cat-less headers. Or use a FP3 canned map. The base map allows you to return to the last installed map. I've had the FP3 on three twin-cam harleys and it's been awesome on all of them. Even those bikes without V&H pipes.

it isn't going to matter if you upload the Harley map or not, the digital tech is going to know that your ecm has been flashed with a 'non approved' tuner. your smile is going to quickly turn into a frown when they say 'denied'.

Damn....that’s a buzzkill.

I would sure like to know from a harley tech how that might work. Not doubting you at all, just technical curiosity.

Interesting. V&H actually has a CARB compliant tuner. I wonder......

take a look at the year range for that tuner. and because it is carb compliant, it is nowhere near as capable as the other one.
