Default M8 107 engine and head temperature.

Looking for input from people who have actually see the temp readings on their bike via power vision or whatever other software taps into the engine sensors. What are your temperatures normally sitting at. At what temp should one be concerned on the m8?

what do you have, oil cooled or twin cooled?

I would suggest reading all the info DK customs has posted on their site http://www.dkcustomproducts.com/acl/cooling.htm . I have an M8 Freewheeler so all the temp reading I get from my PV are going to be more like riding with 250 pound passenger. My main concern on engine heat was more about power loss as the engine begins to pull spark the hotter it get.

Below are DK's target temp guidelines. But I have done the tank lift, 6 line oil cooler, air wings, along with hi flow AC, hi flow pipes and torque cam, but can't get down to their suggested numbers. The aux oil cooler DID drop my oil temp around 10 degrees but only lowered my engine and head temp a couple of degrees. I came to the conclusion that the cooling effect of the oil is small in comparison to the wind. My M8 does have a stock oil cooler with fan.

You may find the biggest change to you temps comings for the direction and speed of the winds. 15 mph cross wind from the right will really cool things down and a strong tail wind will really heat things up, so be careful if your trying to measure improvements.

MY DATA (remember I got a 300 pound gorilla riding with me all the time)
SPEED 70 mph
air 94
oil 210 measured in sump
ET 315 avg 345 high running 85mph or lots of WOT
CT 354 avg 375 high running 85 mph or lots of WOT
intake around 128

SPEED 70 mph
air 60
oil 200 measured in sump
ET 310 avg 334 high running 85mph or lots of WOT
CT 345 avg 365 high running 85 mph or lost of WOT
intake around 98
These numbers are compiled from many runs.

DK CUSTOMS TARGET TEMPS:
Engine Temperature, as measured by the factory sensor & then displayed by
the PV as "ET". M8 reads higher than twin

(Milwaukee-Eight) Engine Temperature, as measured by the factory sensor &
then displayed by the PV as "ET".

260* F everyday riding, with no more than 280* F in extreme circumstances.

(at 290* F you will feel the sluggishness in power, and accelerated engine
wear begins)

*On the M8 the factory sensor is in a different location, which results in
higher readings than the same overall metal temperature as the Twin Cam

Oil temperatures, as measured in the oil tank or the sump:

230* F everyday riding, with no more than 260* F in extreme circumstances.

(at 270* F you will feel the sluggishness in power, and damage is occurring
to the oil and there is accelerated engine wear)

Steve Cole, Forum Product Expert here, performed some in depth testing on an oil cooled 107 early on, before and after installing HD fan assisted oil cooler in some pretty moderate ambient temps and around town riding

Before
Measured Peak Engine temperature = 340 F
Measured Peak Oil Sump temperature = 267 F
Measured Peak Head Oil Return temperature = 290 F

After
Measured Peak Engine temperature = 302 F
Measured Peak Oil Sump temperature = 201 F
Measured Peak Head Oil Return temperature = 240 F
