Default Build complete

Got my build fired up and running! Did a couple heat cycles on it, took it out for a short Ride tonight. Only gave it about a 1/4 throttle but holy ***** the torque is unreal. I’m gonna put another 50-100 miles on it this weekend and then it’s getting parked till it hits the dyno next Friday to get dialed in. I’m using a tune fuel moto sent me, and it seems to be running well enough to just cruise it around and give it a little throttle to break it in.

one other piece of info I’ll share, I popped my lowers off when I got back from my ride and took it back out and rode it till the engine temp stabilized at about 270 degrees. With the lowers on, it seems to run about 320. Guess I definitely wont be running them in the summer time. With the 107 it was running about 315-325 with the lowers on when I get em last fall. I really like how they look on the bike and are really nice to have when it’s cold. Really wish I had gotten a bike with water cooled heads back in 2017.

Sounds awesome. Did you add a fan assist oil cooler to help with the temperatures? Like yourself I really like my lowers and would hate to remove them because of my build. I actually decided to add the HD cool flow fan as well as the fan assist on my HD 131 build.

yeah I have the thundermax fan, That cool flow fan won’t fit with a D&D pipe so that’s not an option for me. I have seen where people put the liquid cooled grill assemblies in their lowers so they have a larger opening. I will probably do that but ultimately I think when the temps are at 65-70+ regularly they’re just gonna have to come off.

Are you getting those high temps with the vents wide open?

Congrats! I'm delayed getting mine buttoned up waiting on a couple of seals and my new throttle body. Frustrating. Anxious to get her fired up and on the dyno.

For as much as I thought it was going to be a PITA, I love the water-cooled heads in the hot summers here in Arizona. I'm wondering if HD will put it back on future CVOs with the 131" displacement.

yes, I always ride with them open. I think I am going to try removing that vent assembly all together and see if it makes any difference. If it does I’m going to order the water cooled vent/grill assembly. It’ll let a lot more air through but I can keep the lowers on there.

The bike runs fine running that hot, the M8 seems to not mind these temps, and the engine itself doesn’t feel overly hot or anything, it just seems high. I’m sure Ive had it running hotter whoopin on it in the mountains in summertime when it was a 107. but I’ve never seen the engine temp light on or any performance issues. Even with the engine temp at 320 when I stop it doesn’t go into EITMS or anything. I just don’t really know how hot is too hot? Honestly after it gets dyno tuned and i have the water cooled grills in I’ll probably take my power vision off my bars and never worry about it again

Left and Right Radiator Grilles for lower fairing:
57100151
57100152

There are other conditions that must be met for EITMS, such as ambient temp >80*F

it looks like that’s for the assembly but you must buy the grill insert separate, it’s 100 bucks for the parts roughly on Ronnie's Site roughly. Think I’m just gonna order em. I would think that would be enough air flow to keep the engine cooler but no as cool as not having them on at all. The little vent opening on the lowers is just too small really.
