Hey just wondering how dealers are handling the vent kit.Bought a 2019 end of last season.Just checked trans and i am at just below add.Called dealer service guy said you have to bring in and we verify you are low and top it up keep an eye on it for 8000 kms.I said you are joking right he goes no.I said harley is going to have me keep check my trans fluid for 8000 km not happening.I think i will just order the vent kit and do it my self.
Try a different dealer, if you can/have access to one.
Some will replace it if you ask, per HD's guidelines, they should verify.
My claim was simple. Brought it in, they noted what they drained trans and secondary.
Filled each to spec, put a dye in trans fluid. This was about at 800 miles if memory serves me right, they asked to NOT TOUCH any of the fluids, extend my 1K service to 1500 miles.
Just under 1500 miles, It was a weekend and had a longer trip planned, I bought it in for service. They noted levels again and found the dye in the secondary.
Did the 1K service at that time and put the vent in.
If I hit the highway at 70 to 80MPH for more than a few miles, it would go below the fluid level on the stick. I didn't think it was that big of a deal as it wasn't empty, just low.
5K miles seems a bit absurd, to be honest.
If holding a handheld electric drill is within your capability then you can install it. pn: 26500026 Hose,Vent breather $3.21 each @ Surdyke. Buy two 2 incase you tear one. Dont ask be how I know.
Well i think i will get the kit, but on 2019 going to have to remove the trans cover and remove the trans oil deflector.I am sure will have to loosen exhaust to get trans cover bottom bolts out but still not bad of a job.Figure will take me 2 hours
Talked to a guy at Daytona bike week a few weeks ago. He rode down from up north and started having a problem and stopped at a dealer on the way. He had lots of engine work so they told him no warranty but it needed the vent. He showed me the bill and it was $658 total for the job, he was in a bind with that being his only ride so he let them do it......ridiculous!!!!
Well i think i will get the kit, but on 2019 going to have to remove the trans cover and remove the trans oil deflector.
I don't think it matters if the deflector is removed or not. Vent was installed in my '19 last April at 1,000 miles. Deflector wasn't removed. I now have almost 20,000 miles and no transfer since the vent install.
