Default Plastic intake manifold???

Who all has had a plastic manifold melt under normal situations? Not from overheating due to sumping or prolonged idling.

Man, it's going to have to get well over 400 degrees F to melt that. It's not an ABS plastic, more of a composite, I'm sure H-D knows the melting point of whatever the material choice is and picked something well within tolerance. If the motor gets hot enough that the manifold melts, there's a much greater problem happening.

There have been reports of some that have warped, but I don't think there were many. Melted? Something extreme would have to happen.

There have been complaints of the plastic warping causing air leaks. My PHD Tech claims he's never seen one- yet. The solution/ prevention is to use the SE metal one.

Yup, just swap out with the SE 55mm (stock is 55mm) if it makes one feel better. I suppose if in an overheat situation it would be peace of mind to not have to worry about warpage.

I’m surprised H-D hasn’t called the primary vent an SE upgrade yet!

SMH not going to happen. Composite intakes have been on cars and trucks since the 90s. We just arrived to the 20th Century.

Sometimes Harley has a long learning curve in areas where other companies adapt and succeed more quickly. Unfortunately we have seen HD struggle with longer learning curves in other areas. Hopefully the manifold is not one of these areas.
