Why would that be? Ceramic is not an insulator.

Ceramic most definitely is an insulator....coating headers causes more heat to exit the pipe instead of radiating thru the metal.....

Ceramic on pipes is there because it's an insulator. A side benefit is the durability of the finish.

I should have researched before commenting. Property treated ceramics do have relatively low thermal conductivity.

A,so, why you can touch a “Green Egg” BBQ:

UNIQUE CERAMICS

It is the ceramic of the Big Green Egg that reflects the heat, generating an airflow that makes the ingredients and dishes exceptionally tender.

The Big Green Egg ceramic was partly developed by NASA and the production process takes place in North-America according to the strictest quality standards, which explains the exceptionally high quality. It has superb insulating properties and can withstand extreme temperatures and temperature fluctuations.

I've been on a couple m8 softails. To me there was less felt heat than on the m8 touring bikes, and the m8 touring bikes give off significantly less felt heat than any of my twin cams.
Just my experience...

My 2017 SGS runs 280ish most of the time. But days like today on long trips and 90 degree plus weather i see it at 300 an abovr pretty often. Going of the display from my power vision. I think this is pretty normal. I run synthetic oil. Open exhaust pipes with stock header an furm moto air filter stage 1 and dont ride my bike easy. My twin cams didnt run that hot but like said temp sensors arent located the same. An the m8 is a bigger engine etc. Roll on.

I put a Power vision on my m8 and there was a big difference in heat. Fan in the lower, since its a wethead, hardly ever stays on when i return home and shut her down. Before the Powervision the fan would fun for 30 seconds after shur down on a warm day ever time i shut her down.
