m8 break in
There main concern is maybe something missed in assembly or say a flaw in a bolt or such that may let loose. They don't want some fool getting a new bike and think since it says what it says on speedometer think they should mske sure it will.
If something lets go, the hope you are going easy. If it's going to break, it will break going easy.
The only reason they have the 1000 mile check is to protect Harley. No one should have to pay for that. They are just making sure they keep their strings in their cash cow..
Do nothing more then what the service manual says. After warranty, it's way over kill. Time has nothing to do with oil life
New cars with maintenance monitoring does not factor time. Least the ones I have seen. And I just worked on a 3 year old Acura.
PS...did your owners manual call out a 500 miles check?

I provided and take care of my two student's cars. I carried in at the time a 3 year old Civic that I purchased new and came with free state inspection and oil changes. They know me at dealership since I have always did all my own work even though they grow weary of free oil changes on a CRV.
Always look at everything before carrying cars in. Even re-torque lug nuts when I get them back and quick look under.
Glanced under Civic when I got making sure filter looked new and no leaks. There was grease on the outboard CV boot. Knew it was OK before carrying it in. Couldn't find a tear. Wiped it good. A few days later, checked and little more grease in the V of the boot. Cleaned it up this time with cleaner. Mechanic had punched a hole with a scribe.
Guess he figured next year on inspection, he would get to replace a drive shaft.
Toyota dealer pulled similar stunt on my 4X4. On free state inspection , they pulled a free all point maintenance list I never ask for. Told me battery was low on amperage.
Told them I would take care of it. About a month later, would not crank at work at 12AM. Wasn't battery. I finally jumped the interlock relay at relay in engine compartment basically hot wiring it to start in any gear.
Start circuit was cut out from switch on side of transmission. They had unplugged it and pushed it in just so it made contact and did not clip in. It had backed out. At first, I thought it had gone bad and was pulling it . Its up between transmission hump. When I was reaching up trying to get a 10MM socket on it, wire fell down.
I plugged it back in. Typical of most plug clips, there a pain to undo.
It was cristal clear what had happened. At the Toyota dealership, you can observe their work. After mechanic had inspection and changed the oil, a white shirt manager had walked under truck looking and reaching up. I assumed at the time checking for quality work.
That Toyota at the time were crooks all the way to the top.
Six months ago, I purchased a new Honda for my graduated student. Came with free oil and state inspection. It will only go back there if it's a warranty item.
Mobile 1 15,000 mile Oil and OEM filter are on my work bench. State inspection will be at a small shop with a bay door I can observe it. And when they pop the hood, there is a good chance they will have to say insurance restricts me there. So I shake my head OK till hood comes down. They have told me numerous times. I always politely back up really slow shaking my head OK.
