Trying to get the nerve up to pull the trigger on a 131 crate motor for my 19 Road King.
My biggest fear (besides cost) is reliability. Anyone that has one installed had any issues?
Is that a Road King Standard (107ci)?
Is the bike still under factory warranty?
My preference would generally go to a bolt on kit, rather than a crate engine. Crate engines come off the production line. Bolt on kits are generally done by one person, checking all tolerances.
Assuming the above, I'm guessing you're going with the Screamin' Eagle 128ci bolt on kit. If the bike is no longer under factory warranty, I'd recommend going with aftermarket kits. They are cheaper, perform better, and are generally more reliable. However, they may not be EPA compliant (like anyone cares) and may void (extended) drivetrain warranty. Or you could be stupid like me, and do aftermarket parts on a brand new bike.

Bold is how it should be done. Many are parts changers, not true mechanics and they do not do that. Not long ago a post about a 128 kit being installed on a 107 ( 128 is for a 114 126 is for a 107) Then they could not figure out why power was so low. Had they checked tolerance they would have know the pistons were not all the way up in the cylinder.
HD kit is very good it you want to keep warranty. Aftermarket if you are out of warranty or not worried about it.
Only a couple months left on warranty, seeing as the bulk of my warranty has gone by with the bike just sitting. I have been working 7 days a week for a year now, and will be until probably June.
I just went with the Screamin Eagle kit and a TTS tuner using a V&H pro pipe and a heavy breather ac.
I know there are better kits out there, but my dealer had this in stock and they had my bike in the shop the same day starting on it.
I dont need every last bit of power out of it, just want a good bump in power over stock. I have had good luck using Screamin Eagle parts in the past even though I know there are better out there.

I just ordered a 131 crate up here at High Desert in Idaho along with a 2021 Road King Special. I decided for a few more bucks I'd rather have a "spare" 114 to build another bike with. That was the main factor in deciding which way to go. I have a Road Glide with S&S 124, Grudge Box, BBP inverted forks, etc. The 131 is going to be my Cruiser and I look forward to putting it through the paces.

great dealership (also love the fantastic riding up there)..same with Lone Wolf in Spokane...High Desert bought a dealership down here in Eugene, Oregon from our home dealership owners up in Gladstone, Oregon..always enjoy riding up North with friends to visit and stop in those
I wanted the 131 crate, and if I had the 114 motor I would have. But mine is the 107 in a standard Road King, so the money I saved has already been used on other upgrades I wanted.
I figure since its just my cruiser, the 128 should be more than what I need.
