No. Any bike, including Harley’s, unless there’s a defect will not start with the kickstand down while in gear with the clutch in. Go try it. Otherwise you’ll be able to ride off with the kickstand down .

Okay, maybe I have just never tried. I was completely unaware of a kickstand switch on a Harley. I have seen it on metrics. I will give it a shot.

I'm sure the OP ran his bike stock at low RPMs and was fine. It's the tune. Lugging isn't a specific RPM thing, it's a current Power output verses current Load demand relationship...

I regularly run mine at 2K just coasting with little load and it also runs fine without any surging or bucking... that's either when I ran it stock for years or with my current PV and cam... 45K miles btw.

OP, doesn't the SE Pro tuner have limited Start tune Live capabilities (autotune)? Try that first or just have the dealership dyno it.

Also: Domestic Harleys do not have a Kick stand (Jiffy Stand) interlock switch. You can start the bike in gear with the jiffy stand down...and you can ride off with the jiffy stand down - which is big fun.

Just checked mine
sitting on bike, jiffy stand deployed, in 1st gear, clutch pulled in = vroom as soon as I hit the starter button.

now for your other issue . Never experienced anything like you describe when I had my work done

You are wrong! No side stand nanny switch on U.S. Harley's except police bikes.

Just did it. Should have taken a video, you are wrong.

I was pretty sure I had never seen a kickstand switch on my Harleys.

Had upgrades, including cam(s) etc. on every Harley I've owned except my 20. My 17 had the Harley stage II with the same cam as the OP. I can say for certain that some oscillation at lower rpm is normal with any cam upgrade and cams designed to maximize torque, such as the HD 447, aren't as bad as more radical cam designs. The low RPM oscillation can be tuned out some, but not all the way.

There are a couple things the OP could try. First is to datalogging and run the autotune software for the SEPST. Its very easy and it works. Second, try running and autotuning with the db reducer installed in the S&S pipes... if they are not already installed.

Starting in gear / kickstand down.... no comment.

Checked mine too. Started just fine in gear with the side-stand down. Back to your previous point: keep the rpms above 2500. Anything below 2k is lugging the engine (as other posters have stated).

Sir, all your issues sound like they can be cleared up with a competent dyno tune. Torque cam should be smooth bottom to top, no shudder or ping.
