Hi folks,
Ive recently acquired a 2018 M8 Breakout. Its done less than 1000 miles and has a stage 1 with big radius pipes.
for some reason the idle rises and falls in traffic or at junctions etc. It settles eventually but its a real pain when it fluctuates from normal idle speed to 1,300+ rpm with the throttle closed.
my local dealer keeps trying to hint that its normal. Surely it cant be??
then they suggested an FP3 tuner might fix it. They supposedly fitted one but before i was a mile away from collecting the bike from them after theyd fixed it, it was doing exactly the same thing.
Anybody had the same issue/had it fixed?

well you say Stage 1 so assume it has the AC upgraded..first thing I would check is around there for any leaks, manifold, etc..make sure it's all buttoned up securely..intake leak can cause erratic idle..but could be electronic too, among other things
hey bud it is called etims. you turn it off with the throttle rocking it forward until the cruise light blinks.
I thought eitms was only on touring models but could be wrong, haven't owned a Softail M8.. besides, eitms is set to idle at 1050, ~100 more rpms than normal idle..his is fluctuating erratically to 1300 so there's that
If the bike has a stage 1 did you find out how the mixture was set for higher air flow? ECM remap, dyno, etc.
See if there is any codes stored.
If it is not a leak on the intake side see if there is a problem with the idle air controller or whatever it is called on your bike.
Operation When engine temperature reaches a pre*determined point, the EITMS will turn off the rear cylinder fuel injector. Idle speed will be maintained; however, the rear cylinder will become an “air pump” which will work to cool the engine.
